Michael Allen Dicks, Jr., 32, of Kansas City, Missouri, is behind bars for 15 years without parole after a violent, high-speed flight from police ended in a fiery crash and the discovery of a small fortune in methamphetamine and a loaded handgun.
Dicks pleaded guilty on Feb. 23, 2021, to possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime. On the day of sentencing, U.S. Chief District Judge Beth Phillips delivered the hammer: 180 months in federal prison, no chance of early release.
The saga began March 16, 2020, when a Platte County sheriff’s deputy attempted to pull over a Nissan Altima driven by Dicks at the intersection of N.W. Cookingham and N. Ambassador. Dicks ignored a red light — and the flashing lights behind him — flooring the accelerator instead. What followed was a white-knuckle pursuit at speeds hitting 130 miles per hour.
During the chase, Dicks veered onto 152 Highway going the wrong way, recklessly endangering civilian lives in a desperate bid to escape. The flight ended in disaster when the Altima lost control and crashed near N.W. 92nd Terrace and N.W. Old Tiffany Springs Parkway. Dicks suffered injuries and was rushed to a local hospital by ambulance.
Inside the wrecked vehicle, deputies uncovered the evidence that sealed his fate: a loaded Sig Sauer 9mm semi-automatic handgun and four bags containing 462.7 grams — more than one pound — of pure methamphetamine. The gun, directly tied to his drug operation, triggered mandatory minimum sentencing under federal law.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Bradley K. Kavanaugh and investigated by the DEA and the Platte County, Missouri, Sheriff’s Department. Federal authorities say Dicks’ actions endangered not just officers but the public, turning city streets into a war zone for profit and paranoia.
