A Lexington man has been sentenced to 100 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Keith A. Jefferson, 26, was sentenced by United States District Judge Karen K. Caldwell on an undated date.
According to law enforcement, in January 2018, the Lexington Police Department investigated an active disorder with a firearm on Charles Avenue. During a domestic dispute, Jefferson fired a shot into a residence, to gain entry.
On January 9, 2019, Jefferson entered a guilty plea, admitting to illegally possessing two firearms. Jefferson has prior convictions for assaultive behavior and carrying concealed weapons.
Under federal law, Jefferson must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence. Upon his release, he will be under the supervision of the United States Probation Office for three years.
The ATF and the Lexington Police Department conducted the investigation. The United States was represented by Assistant United States Attorney Cynthia T. Rieker.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
Jefferson’s prior convictions include assaultive behavior and carrying concealed weapons. His case is part of the renewed focus on targeting violent criminals.
Robert M. Duncan, Jr., United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; Stuart Lowrey, Special Agent in Charge of the ATF Louisville Field Division; and Lawrence Weathers, Chief of the Lexington Police Department, jointly made the announcement.
