A Davenport man has been sentenced to six months in prison for escaping from federal custody, announced United States Attorney Kevin E. VanderSchel.
On December 14, 2016, Keith Nelson, age 28, of Davenport, Iowa, was sentenced by Chief United States District Court Judge John A. Jarvey to six months in prison for escape from federal custody.
Nelson was ordered to serve a two-year term of supervised release following his imprisonment. This sentence comes after Nelson pleaded guilty to the charge on September 9, 2016.
Nelson was serving a term of 120 months in federal prison when he was released in December 2015, to the residential re-entry center (RRC) in Davenport to complete that term.
In June 2016, Nelson left the RRC without permission and was arrested by the United States Marshal Service (USMS) approximately three days later.
This investigation was conducted by the USMS and the case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
Nelson will spend the next six months behind bars, serving his sentence for escape from federal custody.
The investigation and prosecution of this case are a reminder of the consequences of attempting to evade the law.
