Kek Nyathor Bol, Armed Bank Robbery, Discharging a Firearm During a Crime of Violence, Alaska 2019

Anchorage, Alaska – In a brazen display of violence, 21-year-old Kek Nyathor Bol allegedly robbed Credit Union 1 located at 4020 Debarr Road on June 15, 2019. According to U.S. Attorney Bryan Schroder, Bol has been charged with bank robbery and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.

On the day of the robbery, Bol allegedly entered the bank wearing grey sweat pants, a grey sweatshirt, and a black bandana covering his face. Armed with a semi-automatic pistol with an extended magazine, Bol fired a shot into the ceiling and demanded money from the tellers while pointing the pistol at them.

After the robbery, Bol fled the scene, leaving behind several items, including bundles of cash. The footage from the surveillance cameras also identified a sedan that was seen near the man before and after the robbery. Anchorage Crime Stoppers received an anonymous tip that led law enforcement officers to an Anchorage address where Bol resided.

A sedan matching the vehicle seen during the robbery was parked directly in front of the residence. While searching the vehicle and the sedan, investigators located a black Glock Model 19 9mm handgun and ammunition, as well as thousands of dollars in cash, some of which they were able to match to the money taken in the robbery through a comparison of serial numbers.

Bol was arrested on the charges the evening of June 18, 2019, and was ordered detained pending trial. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Anchorage Police Department (APD), as part of FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force, conducted the investigation leading to the charges in this case. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney James Klugman.

The charges in the criminal complaint are merely allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
