Muskogee, OK – A McAlester man has been convicted of drug conspiracy charges, putting him at risk of spending the rest of his life behind bars.
Kelly Ray Potter Jr., 41, pleaded guilty to drug conspiracy in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 846, 841(a)(1), and 841(b)(1)(A), punishable by not less than 10 years imprisonment, and up to life imprisonment, and up to a $10,000,000.00 fine.
The charges stemmed from a joint investigation entitled ‘Golden Pony’ coordinated by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) of the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The investigation, which spanned from July 2016 to November 29, 2016, found that Potter was part of a conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine (actual).
The ‘Golden Pony’ investigation was a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The case highlights the ongoing struggle against methamphetamine trafficking in Eastern Oklahoma.
Assistant United States Attorney Timothy Hammer represented the United States in the case. The Honorable Kimberly E. West, U.S. Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, accepted the plea and ordered the completion of a presentence investigation report.
Potter’s guilty plea marks a significant victory for law enforcement in the fight against drug trafficking. The case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences for those involved in such activities.
