Newark Man Faces 15-Year Prison Term for Felon in Possession of Firearms
A federal jury has convicted Ken Anderson, 33, of Newark, for being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. Anderson, who has a prior felony record, was found guilty of carrying two loaded semi-automatic pistols.
The conviction came after a trial in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. Sentencing is scheduled for June 23, 2026.
According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, detectives from the Essex County Sheriff’s Office responded to a tip from a confidential informant on July 22, 2025. The informant reported a man with a firearm in the area of the Wynona Lipman Gardens housing development in Newark’s Central Ward.
When detectives approached Anderson’s vehicle with sirens and lights, he fled, driving recklessly through the housing development and eventually jumping out of his moving vehicle. Detectives found two loaded firearms in a backpack and a bullet in Anderson’s pant pocket.
Senior Counsel Philip Lamparello credited the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Newark Division, and the Essex County Sheriff’s Office for their investigation in the case.
The charge of being a felon in possession of firearms carries a maximum potential penalty of 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
