Montgomery, Alabama – Kevin H. Chambliss, a twice-convicted sex offender from Montgomery County, has been sentenced to twenty-five months in federal prison for his second violation of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA). The United States Attorney George L. Beck, Jr., announced the sentence today.
In July 2012, Chambliss was indicted by a federal grand jury for failing to register and update his sex offender registration as required by SORNA after traveling in interstate commerce. According to court documents, Chambliss was convicted of unlawful sexual activity with a minor in Florida in 2003, necessitating his registration as a sex offender.
During his guilty plea hearing in October 2012, Chambliss admitted to being registered in Alabama but relocating to Florida without updating his registration. This admission marked Chambliss’s second federal conviction for failing to register, having previously been convicted of the same felony in 2009 following a move from Florida to Alabama.
Chambliss was initially sentenced to ten months in federal prison and five years of supervised release after the 2009 conviction. However, he violated his supervision terms in 2012 and was sentenced to an additional eight months in federal prison.
United States District Judge Myron H. Thompson sentenced Chambliss to a total of twenty-five months in federal prison, consecutive to the previous eight-month sentence, followed by five years of supervised release. Chambliss is currently in custody of the United States Marshals Service pending placement by the Bureau of Prisons.
This investigation was conducted by the United States Marshals Service and the United States Probation Office, with Assistant United States Attorney Jerusha T. Adams prosecuting the case.
