A 38-year-old St. Louis man is facing a consecutive sentence for failing to report to prison in 2014. Kevin D. Dowell, of St. Louis, Missouri, was previously convicted of wire fraud in a scheme to defraud and embezzle from the FKG Oil Company.
On June 17, 2014, Dowell was sentenced to a year and a day in prison, but he failed to surrender to the prison on August 20, 2014, as ordered. He was apprehended about a week later.
The United States Marshal’s Service conducted the investigation into Dowell’s failure to surrender. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Norman R. Smith.
Dowell faces a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and up to three years of supervised release. If convicted of the new offense, the new sentence will have to run consecutive to the previous sentence of imprisonment.
Sentencing has been scheduled for May 18, 2015. This is a developing story and Grimy Times will provide updates as more information becomes available.
The investigation into Dowell’s failure to surrender highlights the importance of following the law and respecting the judicial process. It is a serious crime to fail to report to prison as ordered, and those who do so can face severe consequences.
