A convicted felon is facing up to 10 years in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm. Kevin Eugene Leeks, Jr. (34, Leesburg) has been a convicted felon since 2013, with two prior felony convictions, including robbery with a deadly weapon.
According to the indictment, Leeks possessed a firearm and ammunition on July 13, 2019. As a convicted felon, he is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law.
Leeks, a Leesburg resident, was arrested on an indictment charging him with one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Hannah Nowalk Watson.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the federal government to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.
Leeks is presumed innocent until proven guilty. An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law.
