A shocking case of child exploitation has come to light in the Northern District of Illinois. Kevin R. Duffy, a 35-year-old man from Lake in the Hills, has been indicted on four counts of traveling in interstate commerce for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct with a minor.
The indictment, announced by John R. Lausch, Jr., United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and Emmerson Buie, Jr., Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Field Office of the FBI, alleges that Duffy traveled from Illinois to Kentucky on multiple occasions: June 25, 2020, July 3, 2020, August 5, 2020, and October 1, 2020. His alleged intention was to engage in sexual conduct with a 15-year-old minor, who was at least four years younger than him.
Duffy has been in law enforcement custody since his arrest on November 18, 2020. Each count in the indictment carries a maximum penalty of up to 30 years in federal prison, and a fine of up to $250,000.
The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica S. Maveus. The Lake in the Hills Police Department assisted in the investigation.
The public is reminded that an indictment contains only charges and is not evidence of guilt. Duffy is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Duffy’s case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of child exploitation and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable. The community should remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
