Khadim Myboye Taylor, Possession of a Weapon by a Previously Convicted Felon, Virginia 2016

RICHMOND, Va. – A Richmond felon has been caught with a gun and ammunition, and now he’s facing serious consequences. Khadim Myboye Taylor, 29, of Richmond, pleaded guilty today to charges of possession of a weapon by a previously convicted felon.

Taylor was a passenger in a vehicle driven by his co-defendant, Joshua Brooks, 28, of Richmond, when Richmond police officers stopped the vehicle for speeding. After being asked to step out of the car for a pat down for weapons, Taylor attempted to flee and was observed by police dropping a .38 caliber pistol, which was recovered.

Taylor was indicted by a federal grand jury on August 4, 2015, and faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison when sentenced on January 19, 2016. The maximum statutory sentence is prescribed by Congress and is provided here for informational purposes, as the sentencing of the defendant will be determined by the court based on the advisory Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente, who led the investigation, praised the work of the Richmond police department and the ATF in bringing Taylor to justice. ‘This case is an example of the critical work being done by law enforcement agencies to keep our communities safe,’ Boente said.

Taylor’s co-defendant, Joshua Brooks, is still awaiting trial. Brooks is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and is scheduled to go to trial in February.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney S. David Schiller. A copy of this press release may be found on the website of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia. The case is a reminder that possession of a weapon by a previously convicted felon is a serious crime with serious consequences. Taylor’s fate will be decided on January 19, 2016, when he is sentenced in federal court.
