Two Orlando residents, Kimberly Carnell White, Jr. and James Romando Harris, II, have been sentenced to federal prison for their involvement in a gun trafficking scheme. According to court documents, a federally licensed firearms dealer in Marion County was burglarized on May 5, 2016.
White, 28, of Orlando, was sentenced to 72 months in prison, while Harris, 28, of Orlando, received an 84-month sentence for possession of firearms by convicted felons. Both defendants pleaded guilty on August 24, 2016.
The investigation, led by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the Orlando Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, uncovered a stash of 16 firearms, including 9 that had been reported stolen from the firearms dealer.
Undercover agents from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office purchased five firearms from White and Harris on May 5, 2016, which matched the serial numbers of the stolen guns. The defendants had prior felony convictions, making them prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law.
On May 13, 2016, law enforcement executed federal search warrants at the Orlando residences where the undercover transactions took place, recovering seven firearms from one residence and four firearms from the other.
The case was prosecuted as part of the Department of Justice’s ‘Project Safe Neighborhoods’ Program, a nationwide gun-violence reduction strategy. The ‘Project Safe Neighborhoods’ effort is coordinated by U.S. Attorney A. Lee Bentley, III, and Daryl R. McCrary, Special Agent in Charge, ATF, in cooperation with federal, state, and local law enforcement officials.
