ST. LOUIS – The grim halls of federal court in St. Louis echoed with justice on Wednesday as Darrell Ray Sanders, a predator who approached children in Kirkwood, Missouri, was sentenced to 11 years in prison for possessing and receiving child pornography.
\\
In a chilling turn of events, Sanders was identified by Kirkwood Police Department officers as a suspect on April 12, 2022, following allegations that he had menacingly approached young children. The police promptly apprehended him, and at the station, Sanders admitted to having child pornographic material on his cell phone.
\\
Investigators’ digital sweep turned up two cell phones with graphic images and videos of child sexual abuse. Sanders, 29, from Jefferson County, Missouri, pleaded guilty in February to one count of receiving child pornography and another for possessing it, a move that sent shockwaves through the community.
\\
The case was meticulously pursued by both the Kirkwood Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathan Chapman leading the prosecution. The swift and decisive action underscores the commitment of federal and local law enforcement to protect our youth from such predatory behavior.
\\
Project Safe Childhood, a Justice Department initiative since May 2006, played a pivotal role in bringing Sanders to justice. This national effort combats child sexual exploitation and abuse, marshaling resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute those who exploit children through the Internet.
