SIoux City, IA – Kory Mammen, 52, a Sioux City man, was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The conviction marks Mammen’s third federal drug conviction, with previous convictions in 2000 and 2011 for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
According to court records, Mammen was stopped by law enforcement on March 26, 2021, for a traffic violation in Sioux City. A K-9 search of his vehicle resulted in the discovery of a black bag containing 42 grams of methamphetamine, along with two syringes and 17 smaller bags.
On November 15, 2021, during his arrest on the charges in this case, Mammen was found with additional methamphetamine, approximately 65 grams in total. He admitted to law enforcement that he planned to distribute some or all of the methamphetamine to others.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick T. Greenwood, and was investigated by the Tri-State Drug Task Force, a multi-agency task force consisting of law enforcement personnel from across the region.
At the plea and sentencing hearings, evidence showed that Mammen’s suspicious behavior during the traffic stop had raised concerns with law enforcement, leading to the deployment of a K-9 unit and subsequent search of his vehicle.
Mammen was sentenced to 180 months’ imprisonment, with an additional eight-year term of supervised release following his imprisonment. He remains in the custody of the United States Marshal until he can be transported to a federal prison.
