BANGOR, Maine – A disturbing case of child exploitation has led to a lengthy prison sentence for an Aroostook County man.
Kyle Sirois, 29, recently of Fort Fairfield, was sentenced to 40 years in prison to be followed by a lifetime of supervised release on February 5, 2020. Sirois was also ordered to pay $24,000 in restitution.
Sirois pleaded guilty on October 3, 2019, to charges of sexual exploitation of a minor and possession of child pornography.
According to court records, between March 2015 and October 2017, Sirois produced video files depicting child pornography. He also possessed other images and videos of different children engaging in sexual behavior, which he had purposefully sought out and received through the internet.
The disturbing images and videos depicted the sexual exploitation of prepubescent children under the age of 12.
The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations, the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit, the Fort Fairfield Police Department, and the Madawaska Police Department.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
