Grimy Times has learned that Kyrie Rashuad Thompson, 29, has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for kidnapping and attempted witness tampering.
In a disturbing case that left a mother and her three-year-old child shaken, Thompson, a Washington D.C. resident, was found guilty of kidnapping the victim and her child in September 2019. The victim had driven to Thompson’s residence to drop off their child, but instead, Thompson ordered her to drive to a location in Maryland, where he attempted to coerce her into performing a sex act while their child was in the backseat.
According to court documents, Thompson became angry and threatening when the victim refused to comply with his demands. He then choked the victim around her neck, pinning her down so she could not breathe. The three-year-old child was left crying in the backseat during the ordeal.
Thompson’s attorney had attempted to intimidate the victim into changing her story, sending her a letter in August 2020, stating that she had to change the facts of the case in order to avoid prosecution. However, the victim refused to comply, and Thompson was ultimately charged with kidnapping and attempted witness tampering.
U.S. Attorney Erek L. Barron commended the FBI for their work in the investigation and thanked the Federal Bureau of Investigation- Washington Field Office and the U.S. Park Police for their assistance. Assistant U.S. Attorney Leah Grossi prosecuted the federal case.
The sentence was announced by Judge Paula Xinis in Greenbelt, Maryland, who found Thompson guilty of kidnapping and attempted witness tampering. The case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of kidnapping and attempting to intimidate witnesses.
Thompson will serve 30 years in federal prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release. The case is a stark reminder of the dangers of kidnapping and the importance of protecting victims and witnesses.
The Maryland U.S. Attorney’s Office, which prosecuted the case, has a long history of prioritizing public safety and holding perpetrators accountable for their crimes.
