GRAND JUNCTION – David Leroy Carver Jr., 47, a man from Los Angeles, has been slapped with federal charges for an in-flight disturbance that turned into a full-blown assault on Breeze Airways crew members and passengers.
The chaos unfolded on August 13, 2025, as Carver made inappropriate sexual comments and racial slurs towards a flight attendant on a flight from Norfolk to Los Angeles. His behavior escalated when he threatened and physically attacked a passenger who had dared to tell him to stop his tirade.
Carver’s violent outburst led to the diversion of the aircraft to Grand Junction Regional Airport, where authorities were called in. Despite being restrained by passengers, Carver managed to free himself and brandish a belt as a weapon, injuring a flight attendant in the process.
The defendant made his first appearance in Federal Court on August 14, charged with interfering with flight crew members and attendants. The investigation is being led by the FBI and the Grand Junction Police Department, while Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer Springer is handling the prosecution.
Carver is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, as noted in the criminal complaint under case number 25-mj-199-RTG.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers aboard commercial flights and the swift action taken by law enforcement to ensure public safety.
