Melanie Denae Williams, Sex Trafficking of Minors, California 2024

Los Angeles woman Melanie Denae Williams, 22, known online as ‘Pretty Hoe,’ was indicted today on federal sex trafficking charges involving the exploitation of two minors and one adult. The five-count indictment, returned by a federal grand jury, marks a major escalation in the case against Williams, who has been held without bond since February 7.

The indictment alleges one count of sex trafficking an adult by force, fraud, or coercion; two counts of sex trafficking of a minor; and two counts of enticement of a minor to engage in prostitution. Williams, from South Los Angeles, used her social media presence—where she styles herself as ‘The Most Hated Hoe in LA’—to recruit victims, according to court documents.

According to the affidavit supporting the original criminal complaint, Williams lured a woman through social media and forced her into prostitution. In one violent episode, Williams allegedly ordered the victim to strip naked, then doused her with bleach and beat her with her hands and a broomstick. The abuse was part of a broader pattern of control and exploitation, prosecutors say.

The newly unsealed indictment introduces allegations involving two minor females, detailing how Williams used the internet to entice them into commercial sex acts. Authorities say the crimes were orchestrated through online platforms, where Williams used her notoriety to manipulate and groom vulnerable victims.

If convicted on any of the five counts, Williams faces a potential life sentence. The charge of sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion carries a mandatory minimum of 15 years in federal prison. Each of the four counts involving minors carries a 10-year mandatory minimum. Sentencing would be consecutive, ensuring decades behind bars if found guilty.

The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department as part of the Los Angeles Regional Human Trafficking Task Force, with support from the Los Angeles Police Department, South Bureau. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lana Morton-Owens and Joseph Axelrad of the Violent and Organized Crime Section. Williams is scheduled for arraignment Friday in United States District Court. An indictment is not a conviction—every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
