Former Virginia drug kingpin Lacole Manley has been sentenced to a life term after being found guilty of leading a multi-million dollar drug trafficking ring. The District Court, Eastern District of Virginia, handed down the severe sentence following a trial that exposed the scale and sophistication of the criminal enterprise.
Manley, 40, was joined at trial by his associates Don Leonard Scott Jr., 35, from Chesapeake, Clayton Davidson LaForge, 30, from Hampton, and Anthony C. Mozzi, 45, from Virginia Beach. The quartet was accused of orchestrating a network that spanned multiple states, distributing kilograms of cocaine and other drugs.
The investigation, which involved the DEA, FBI, and local law enforcement agencies, resulted in the seizure of over $1 million in cash, several vehicles, and substantial quantities of drugs. Manley’s organization was responsible for millions of dollars in sales across the Eastern Seaboard.
During the trial, evidence was presented that Manley personally oversaw numerous drug deals and was directly linked to several violent incidents tied to his operation. The court heard testimonials from law enforcement officials detailing the devastating impact of Manley’s activities on communities throughout Virginia.
The sentencing hearing concluded with Judge John A. Gibney Jr. issuing a life sentence to Manley, stating that the evidence demonstrated a level of criminality that warranted such a harsh penalty. Scott was sentenced to 15 years, LaForge to 12 years, and Mozzi to eight years for their roles in the conspiracy.
Manley’s conviction marks another significant victory in the fight against drug trafficking and organized crime, with law enforcement agencies praising the collaborative efforts that led to his downfall.
