A Laconia man’s reckless disregard for the law has finally caught up with him. Joshua McLean, 39, of Laconia, was sentenced to 87 months in federal prison for the unlawful possession of firearms and unregistered firearms.
According to court documents, McLean sold six firearms to an undercover officer, knowing that some had obliterated serial numbers. He also possessed a sawed-off shotgun and an additional gun, ammunition, and distribution quantities of illegal drugs at his home. McLean was legally prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to a previous felony drug conviction.
As a convicted felon, McLean’s actions pose a significant threat to public safety. His decision to surround himself with unregistered and illegal deadly weapons is a stark reminder of the dangers of armed, prohibited individuals in our communities.
“As a convicted felon, the defendant was prohibited from owning any firearms, yet he chose to surround himself with unregistered and illegal deadly weapons,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Jay McCormack. “His drug trafficking activity only deepened the threat he posed. This case underscores our commitment to removing armed, prohibited individuals from our communities before they can do greater harm.”
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Violent Crime Task Force led the investigation, with valuable assistance from the Laconia, Manchester, and Tilton Police Departments. Assistant U.S. Attorney Anna Krasinski prosecuted the case.
Laconia residents can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that this armed, prohibited individual is behind bars. However, the threat of firearms-related crimes remains a pressing concern in our communities. As we continue to work towards a safer New Hampshire, it’s essential to remember that the consequences for such reckless behavior are severe and well-deserved.
McLean’s sentence reflects the seriousness of the offense and serves as a warning to others who would recklessly disregard the law. As we move forward, it’s crucial that we prioritize the safety and well-being of our communities by holding accountable those who would put innocent lives at risk.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement. By working together, we can ensure that our communities remain safe and secure for all residents.
