Laele Marme, an 18-year-old woman from Temple Terrace, Florida, has been hit with a federal indictment for possession of stolen firearms, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Tampa.
According to court documents, Marme stole five firearms, including four handguns and a semi-automatic rifle, from a victim with whom she was in an ongoing relationship on October 28, 2023.
Multiple photographs and videos were located on Marme’s Instagram account depicting her in possession of the stolen firearms, investigators say.
“An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office stated.
Marme faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison if convicted.
The case was investigated by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the Tampa Police Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jeff Chang.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence.
On May 26, 2021, the U.S. Attorney’s Office launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN based on the core principles of fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.
