RAPID CITY, SD – Jerry Lamont, 61, of Rapid City, South Dakota, will spend the next 15 years in federal prison after being sentenced for sickening crimes against children. U.S. District Judge Camela C. Theeler delivered the sentence on August 29, 2025, following a guilty plea entered on May 14, 2025, to charges of Receipt of Child Pornography and Possession of Child Pornography.
The case, brought forward by U.S. Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell, revealed a disturbing pattern of abuse. Between January and December 2024, Lamont actively uploaded multiple images and videos of child pornography to his Dropbox cloud storage account. A subsequent investigation uncovered a cache of depravity – 12 electronic devices seized from Lamont’s possession all contained child pornography.
The material wasn’t limited to static images. Investigators found depictions of infants being sexually abused, computer-generated imagery, bestiality, and bondage. The sheer volume of abuse is staggering: a total of 13,137 images of child sexual abuse material were recovered. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children identified a horrifying 41 children as victims whose images were among those possessed by Lamont.
“This defendant was in possession of 13,137 images of child sexual abuse material,” stated U.S. Attorney Ramsdell. “Due to the relentless and collaborative work of local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, the defendant was located, apprehended, and swiftly prosecuted for his exploitative conduct. The defendant is now out of our community as he begins his 15 year sentence in federal prison.” Lamont was ordered to pay $35,630 in restitution to several of the victims and the South Dakota ICAC Digital Investigations Fund, and $200 in special assessments to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The investigation was spearheaded by the South Dakota Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Heather Knox successfully prosecuted the case, ensuring Lamont faced the full weight of the law. This case is a stark reminder of the dark underbelly of the internet and the importance of continued vigilance in protecting vulnerable children.
This prosecution was part of Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative launched in 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program leverages federal, state, and local resources to identify, apprehend, and prosecute predators like Lamont, and to rescue victims. Lamont was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to begin serving his 15-year sentence, followed by five years of supervised release.
