ALBUQUERQUE – The grim streets of Las Cruces witnessed yet another blow against the drug trade as Leticia Maria Rodriguez, 35, faced the music in federal court. Rodriguez was sentenced today to a hefty 51-month prison term for her role in methamphetamine trafficking.
The defendant’s journey into the clink began when she was arrested back in March 2016 in Dona Ana County. She was charged with possession of meth and heroin with intent to distribute, as well as conspiracy to possess meth with intent to distribute. During a raid on her residence, cops unearthed a staggering 75.7 grams of meth and 43.3 grams of heroin, along with drug paraphernalia.
On May 10, 2016, Rodriguez pled guilty to the charges. She confessed that law enforcement found 65.8 grams of meth and drug gear at her home during a search warrant. The court heard how Rodriguez sourced the meth and intended to distribute it to others.
This case stands as a testament to the relentless efforts of Homeland Security Investigations and DEA’s Las Cruces offices. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark A. Saltman prosecuted the case with a fervor that matched the gravity of the offense.
As Rodriguez prepares for her prison sentence, law enforcement agencies in New Mexico continue their battle against drug trafficking, one conviction at a time. The community of Las Cruces holds its breath, hoping this sentence serves as a deterrent to others who might consider similar crimes.
