Lead SNAP & PUA Scammer Pleads Guilty in Kansas

WICHITA, KANSAS – A Fitchburg, Mass., resident has copped to his part in a colossal fraud conspiracy that swindled over $1.2 million from the federal government. The defendant, whose name is withheld for legal reasons, pleaded guilty today in federal court in Worcester to charges involving the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) benefits.

Prosecutors allege that the defendant and his accomplices exploited the identities of over 100 individuals to siphon off $440,000 in SNAP benefits from Massachusetts and Rhode Island. They also admitted to obtaining more than $700,000 in PUA benefits through fraudulent means in six states: Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Washington, and Nevada.
