Leshawn Thomas, Cocaine Trafficking, New York 2023

A 34-year-old Clayville man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his role in a cocaine trafficking operation. Leshawn Thomas, who had two prior felony convictions, was found guilty of possessing with the intent to distribute approximately 3.01 kilograms of cocaine and 268.14 grams of cocaine base in Oneida County, New York on or about April 28, 2023.

As part of his guilty plea, Thomas admitted to possessing two loaded semi-automatic pistols. He pleaded guilty to the charges and was subsequently sentenced to 120 months in federal prison.

The sentence was handed down by Chief United States District Judge Brenda K. Sannes, who also ordered Thomas to serve an 8-year term of supervised release to follow his release from prison. The judge also ordered the forfeiture of the semi-automatic pistols.

The investigation into Thomas’s activities was conducted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), with assistance from the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, and the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (NY DOCCS-Parole).

Assistant U.S. Attorney Allen J. Vickey prosecuted the case, which was part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative. PSN is a program aimed at reducing violent crime by focusing enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partnering with locally based prevention and reentry programs.

Thomas’s sentencing serves as a reminder of the seriousness of cocaine trafficking and the consequences that come with it. The case highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the community in the fight against crime.
