New York – In a bold move against the Trump administration’s proposed federal workforce purge, Attorney General Letitia James has joined a coalition of 21 attorneys general in filing an amicus brief. The lawsuit challenges the misleading ‘buyout’ plan that would see thousands of federal employees forced out of their jobs.
“The administration’s plan to eliminate thousands of federal employees’ jobs is dangerous and would be disastrous for our country,” James stated. “Millions of Americans rely on federal workers for essential services like health care, childcare, transportation, emergency response, and more.”
The coalition argues that the indiscriminate loss of federal employees would severely impact states’ abilities to respond to natural disasters, support veterans, and deliver vital services across the nation. The brief also highlights the lack of information provided to federal employees regarding their pensions, health benefits, and other critical details.
Attorney General James and the coalition are urging the court to grant a temporary restraining order to protect federal workers and preserve public interests. The lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, with a hearing scheduled for February 10th.
Joining Attorney General James in the lawsuit are attorneys general from Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, and the District of Columbia.
