Dean L. Baldwin, Receipt of Child Pornography, Nebraska 2015

United States Attorney Deborah R. Gilg dropped the hammer on Dean L. Baldwin, a 38-year-old Lincoln resident, today, sentencing him to 68 months behind bars for the receipt of child pornography.

The grim revelation came after a meticulous investigation by the Lincoln Police Department. In October 2015, the department was hot on the trail of computers sharing files over the internet, leading them to an IP address harboring sinister content. A series of downloads and forensic investigations later, it became clear that Baldwin had been the guilty party.

Not content with just a sentence, Baldwin will also have to register as a sex offender for life and serve 5 years of supervised release after his release from prison.

The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a DOJ initiative launched in 2006 to combat the child sexual exploitation and abuse crisis. It’s a nationwide effort that has led to the apprehension of numerous predators like Baldwin.

During the February 2016 search of Baldwin’s residence, authorities discovered a trove of 20 videos and approximately 100 images depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, making it one of the most disturbing cases they’ve seen.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of cybercrime and the lengths law enforcement will go to protect children from predators. The Lincoln Police Department’s hard work has once again proven that justice for these young victims is being served.
