Arlington woman sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for her role in a meth smuggling conspiracy.
DEL RIO, Texas – In a shocking turn of events, 46-year-old Linnette Rodriguez-Potter was sentenced to 168 months in federal prison for her role in a conspiracy to import methamphetamine into the United States.
According to court documents, Rodriguez-Potter conspired with others to import 3.422 kilograms of methamphetamine that had a purity of 100%. The methamphetamine was discovered by Customs and Border Protection Officers at the Del Rio Port of Entry on July 25, 2020, during a secondary inspection.
Rodriguez-Potter was found to be in possession of seven packages containing methamphetamine hydrochloride, which was destined for her co-conspirator Sally Renae Smith. The co-conspirators intended to further traffic the methamphetamine elsewhere in Texas.
Rodriguez-Potter was not the only one involved in the conspiracy. Her co-defendants, Joshua Keith Stewart and Stetson Lee Spearman, also pleaded guilty to the charge. Sally Renae Smith was sentenced on February 22, 2024, to 292 months in prison, while Stewart was sentenced on October 4 to 235 months in prison.
Rodriguez-Potter’s case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rex Beasley.
The U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texas, Jaime Esparza, made the announcement of Rodriguez-Potter’s sentencing.
Rodriguez-Potter’s 14-year sentence is a stark reminder of the severe consequences of engaging in methamphetamine trafficking. As the opioid epidemic continues to ravage communities across the country, it is essential that those involved in the trade are held accountable for their actions.
The case serves as a warning to those who would seek to engage in similar activities: the consequences will be severe, and the penalties will be steep.
Rodriguez-Potter’s case is a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors who work tirelessly to bring justice to those who have been harmed by the illegal drug trade.
