Lockport Man Faces 10 Years in Child Porn Case

LOCKPORT, N.Y. – Sterling Jones, 23, of Lockport, is facing federal charges after investigators uncovered a sickening trove of child pornography linked to him. The FBI’s CyberTipLine flagged suspicious activity originating from a DropBox account believed to belong to Jones back in March 2017, kicking off an investigation that culminated in his arrest.

Acting U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. announced the charges today, detailing how a federal search warrant was executed at Jones’ residence – 153 Grand Street, Apartment 2 – on April 7, 2017. The search focused on Jones’ cellular phone, and what investigators found on that device was deeply disturbing.

A forensic analysis of the phone revealed a second DropBox account, crammed with approximately 295 videos and 11 images depicting the sexual abuse of children. Authorities confirm that some of the images featured prepubescent victims, adding another layer of horror to the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan Cantil is prosecuting the case.

Jones made his initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge H. Kenneth Schroeder and is currently being held in custody. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine – a punishment that barely scratches the surface of the harm caused by his actions.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Adam S. Cohen. The FBI’s CyberTipLine continues to be a vital resource in identifying and disrupting the distribution of this horrific material.
