A Bosque Farms, New Mexico man has been sentenced to federal prison for his role in a brutal assault.
Louie Valdez, 51, was sentenced this morning to 27 months in federal prison for his assault conviction. In addition to his prison sentence, Valdez will serve three years on supervised release.
Valdez, a member of Isleta Pueblo, was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,547 and a special penalty assessment of $100.
According to the indictment, Valdez seriously injured a man by running over him with a vehicle on August 10, 2011, in a location within Isleta Pueblo. He was charged with assault resulting in serious bodily injury and assault with a dangerous weapon.
Valdez pled guilty to Count 1 of the indictment charging him with assault resulting in serious bodily injury on January 17, 2014. In his plea agreement, Valdez admitted that on August 10, 2011, he intentionally drove his pickup truck over the victim, causing serious injuries.
This case was investigated by the Southern Pueblos Agency of the BIA’s Office of Justice Services with assistance from the Isleta Pueblo Tribal Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul H. Spiers.
Valdez will begin serving his sentence immediately. He was ordered to report to a federal correctional facility by a court order. The case serves as a reminder of the severity of violent crimes and the consequences of such actions.
