Louisiana Man Pleads Guilty To Texas Bank Robbery

BEAUMONT, Texas — Allen Keith Miller, a 49-year-old from Cameron, Louisiana, has copped to robbing the Capital One Bank branch on 16th Street in Orange, Texas. Miller’s brazen move earned him a guilty plea before U.S. Magistrate Judge Keith Giblin.

The courtroom heard details of how Miller, donning a blonde wig and a baseball cap, calmly approached a teller on June 25, 2013, with a hand-written note demanding the bank be robbed. Despite his threat of being armed, no weapon was shown. His face became a household name after media aired footage of the heist.

Miller’s luck ran out when law enforcement in Louisiana nabbed him. They found the teller’s note and getaway gear—from the wig to the black knee brace—in his car. Miller, charged by a federal grand jury on July 11, 2013, now faces up to 20 years behind bars.

U.S. Attorney John M. Bales heads the Department of Justice’s Office of Public Affairs, which investigated this case along with the FBI and Orange Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney John Craft is prosecuting Miller, whose sentencing date is still pending.

The defendant, who entered his plea today, has been a high-profile target since the crime occurred, drawing intense media coverage and public scrutiny.
