Lower Brule Man Charged with Assaulting Federal Officer
Marty LaRoche, 19, has been hit with a serious charge. The Lower Brule, South Dakota resident has been indicted by a federal grand jury in connection with an incident involving an assault on a federal officer.
According to sources close to the investigation, LaRoche appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on March 20, 2013, and pled not guilty to the Indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 8 years of imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both; 3 years of supervised release and an additional 2 years of supervised release upon revocation. Restitution and a $100 special assessment may also be ordered.
The investigation into LaRoche’s involvement is being conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges leading the prosecution. LaRoche was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service pending trial, which has been set for May 14, 2013.
