Guatemalan National Sentenced to Five Years in Prison for Illegal Reentry
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – In a significant crackdown on illegal immigration, a Guatemalan national has been sentenced to five years in prison for illegally returning to the United States after deportation.
United States District Judge Liles C. Burke handed down the 60-month prison sentence to Lucas Lucas-De Lucas, 36, on [current date]. Lucas was found guilty of illegal reentry of a previously deported alien.
This case marks a major victory in the ongoing effort to combat illegal immigration. Lucas has a history of breaking the law, with two prior felony convictions for illegal reentry. He was first removed from the United States in May 2012, and was removed again in December 2019, February 2021, and April 2023.
The investigation into Lucas’s activities was a collaborative effort between Homeland Security Investigations and the Albertville Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sara M. Judah prosecuted the case.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at repelling the invasion of illegal immigration, eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime.
U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona praised the efforts of all involved in the case, stating that the sentence sends a strong message to those who would break the law and seek to enter the United States illegally.
