A convicted felon from Mesquite, Texas, has been sentenced to 96 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm. Luis Baeza Caro, 33, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in November 2017.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Northern District of Texas, Caro was arrested in May 2017 after law enforcement responded to complaints of gunshots being fired in the backyard of his residence. Upon arrival, police recovered three firearms and marijuana from Caro’s home.
Caro, a multi-convicted felon and gang member, has been in custody since his arrest. His sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Erin Nealy Cox, who stated that Caro was sentenced by U.S. District Judge David C. Godbey on Monday.
The case against Caro was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Mesquite Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Gary Tromblay and Mark Penley prosecuted the case.
