In a groundbreaking move, President John F. Kennedy has appointed Luke Charles Moore, a 38-year-old native of Collinsville, Illinois, as the second African American to serve as a US marshal in the continental United States. Moore, currently an assistant US attorney in the District of Columbia, will succeed James P. McShane as marshal for the district, paving the way for a new era of representation and equality within the nation’s law enforcement agencies.
