A devastating sentence has been handed down to a Philadelphia man for his heinous role in sex trafficking. Mallie M. Evans, 37, has been sentenced to 120 months in prison for transporting victims in interstate commerce to engage in prostitution, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced today.
The sentencing took place in Camden federal court, where Evans previously pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Karen M. Williams to a count of the indictment against him charging him with transporting any individual in interstate commerce with the intent that such individual engage in prostitution. Judge Williams imposed sentence on May 23, 2024.
According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court, Evans’s crimes spanned from 2015 through 2017. During this time, he recruited and coerced multiple victims to engage in prostitution for his financial benefit and transported victims across state lines between Philadelphia and central and southern New Jersey to engage in prostitution.
Evans’s methods were nothing short of brutal. He used fraud, emotional manipulation, physical violence, and threats of death and bodily injury to coerce the victims into engaging in commercial sex acts for his benefit. The extent of his crimes is a stark reminder of the darker side of human nature and the need for continued vigilance in the fight against sex trafficking.
In addition to the prison term, Judge Williams sentenced Evans to 10 years of supervised release. This sentence serves as a warning to those who would engage in similar crimes, and it is a testament to the dedication of law enforcement officials who work tirelessly to bring perpetrators to justice.
U.S. Attorney Sellinger credited special agents of the FBI, Newark Division, Trenton Resident Agency, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge James E. Dennehy, with the investigation leading to the sentencing. The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander E. Ramey of the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s Criminal Division in Trenton.
The case of Mallie M. Evans serves as a reminder of the importance of continued efforts to combat sex trafficking and to support victims of these heinous crimes. As law enforcement officials continue to work to bring perpetrators to justice, it is also important for the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity that may be related to sex trafficking.
