Jamestown Man Pleads Guilty to Enticement of Minor
A 35-year-old man from Jamestown, New York, has pleaded guilty to a felony charge of enticement of a minor, which carries a minimum penalty of 10 years in prison and a maximum of life behind bars. Richard LaFrance, 35, faces a hefty fine of $250,000 if convicted.
According to court documents, LaFrance met a 14-year-old girl in April 2019 and began communicating with her via email and text message. The communications between LaFrance and the minor victim were sexually explicit, with the defendant requesting that the minor victim send him naked pictures.
LaFrance met up with the minor victim on at least two occasions and engaged in sexual intercourse. The investigation into LaFrance’s crimes was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas A. C. Penrose is handling the case, which is a result of an investigation led by the FBI under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Stephen Belongia and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office under the direction of Sheriff James B. Quattrone.
LaFrance’s plea is a significant development in the case, which has been ongoing for several years. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for November 9, 2021, at 4:00 p.m. before U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr.
The guilty plea is a stark reminder of the dangers of online predatory behavior and the importance of protecting our children from exploitation. LaFrance’s crimes are a serious offense, and he faces a lengthy prison sentence if convicted.
U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. announced LaFrance’s guilty plea, emphasizing the severity of the crime. The case highlights the need for vigilance and awareness in preventing such crimes from occurring in the first place.
