Mansfield Man Hit with Bomb Threat Charges

Manhattan’s grimy streets witnessed a chilling incident as Lonny L. Bristow, 39, of Mansfield, Ohio, has been charged with six counts of willfully making threats, a federal offense that has left the nation in fear.

Bristow is accused of placing bomb threats at courthouses across Nebraska, Washington, Oregon, Tennessee, and Mississippi from November to December 2012. These malicious calls were executed using prepaid calling cards purchased at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

The threats not only sparked fear but also caused massive disruptions as court proceedings were halted. United States Attorney Steven M. Dettelbach praised the FBI’s efforts in piecing together this complex case. “Lonny Bristow induced panic in hundreds of people across several states who were simply trying to do their work,” said Special Agent Stephen D. Anthony.

Assistant United States Attorney Thomas Getz is handling the prosecution, with an investigation led by the FBI agents. If convicted, Bristow’s sentence will be determined based on a review of factors unique to his case, including any prior criminal record, his role in the offenses, and the characteristics of the violations.

It is crucial to note that an information is only a charge and does not constitute evidence of guilt. The defendant, Lonny L. Bristow, is entitled to a fair trial where the government must prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the recklessness that can stem from false bomb threats, illustrating the serious consequences faced by those who choose to instill fear and disrupt public order.
