Manteca Man Sentenced to 9 Years for Murder-for-Hire Plot

Manteca, Calif. — In a grim turn of events, Jagninder Singh Boparai, 49, of Manteca, has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison for his role in a chilling murder-for-hire plot.

Boparai was caught red-handed after he met with an individual he believed to be a hitman. This ‘hitman’ was actually an FBI informant, and Boparai’s plan was to eliminate two enemies. According to U.S. Attorney Eric Grant, Boparai paid for the services, thinking he would ‘teach a lesson’ to his foes.

Grant emphasized that the U.S. Attorney’s Office is determined to protect public safety, stating, “The defendant met on five separate occasions with this person and provided payments. Fortunately, there was no hitman, and today’s sentence sends a clear message.”

The FBI, led by Special Agent in Charge Sid Patel of the Sacramento Field Office, has zero tolerance for violent crimes. Patel praised law enforcement partners for their support, ensuring both victim safety and a successful investigation.

Court documents reveal Boparai’s plot involved more than just murder. He also discussed robbing a business and making someone ‘disappear’ without leaving any evidence. The investigation was a massive collaborative effort involving multiple agencies from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, ATF, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, local police departments, and others.

On March 31, 2023, all three defendants were arrested and are currently in federal custody. This case serves as a stark reminder of the serious consequences faced by those who seek to endanger public safety through organized crime and violent acts.
