Mario Zavala Sentenced

Mario Zavala, a 39-year-old Crystal City man and convicted felon, has been sentenced to 180 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm. Zavala, who was convicted for organized criminal activity with the Texas Mexican Mafia in August 2013, was found to be in possession of a loaded .40 caliber pistol in his residence.

According to court documents, Zavala was arrested on a warrant on November 6, 2024, and admitted to possessing the firearm. Furthermore, it was discovered that Zavala had maintained his ties to the Texas Mexican Mafia and continued to distribute narcotics, including cocaine and methamphetamine.

Zavala was indicted for one count of felon in possession of a firearm on December 4, 2024, and pleaded guilty on March 5, 2025. U.S. District Judge Ernest Gonzalez presided over the court proceedings, which resulted in Zavala being sentenced to 15 years in federal prison.
