Marion Man Sentenced to Over 13 Years for Meth Distribution

Marion, IL – In a stunning blow to the local drug trade, Otis R. Elion, 48, of Marion, was today sentenced to over 13 years in federal prison for his relentless push of methamphetamine across Williamson County.

Elion, who had previously pleaded guilty to distributing meth, was handed down a sentence of 167 months imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release. The federal fine of $600.00 was also levied against him.

The evidence presented during the plea and sentencing hearings revealed that Elion sold meth to an undercover source on October 17 and 18, 2016. The Southern Illinois Enforcement Group and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) led the investigation that resulted in his conviction.

At the time of his offenses, Elion already had 17 felony drug convictions and was on supervised release for a previous federal drug case. The district judge revoked his supervised release and imposed an additional 33-month sentence, doubling his prison term to a total of 200 months.

This is a significant victory for law enforcement in their ongoing battle against methamphetamine distribution. The Marion Police Department Emergency Response Team, Illinois State Police, and Williamson County States Attorney’s Office played pivotal roles in the investigation that ultimately led to Elion’s downfall.

Elion’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the severe penalties associated with drug trafficking and the commitment of law enforcement to protect the public from such dangerous criminal activities.
