A convicted sex offender admitted to sexually assaulting a 6-year-old child in Newport News, Virginia.
Mark Anthony Lowe, 63, of Fort Worth, Texas, pleaded guilty to charges of coercion and enticement of a child and penalties for a registered sex offender.
The crime occurred during the 2015 Christmas holiday while Lowe was visiting the child’s family on Langley Air Force Base.
The victim was taken to an area hospital and examined by a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, and a sexual assault forensic report was completed.
Lowe has a prior criminal record, including a 1993 conviction for a sexual assault offense involving a child in Tarrant County, Texas.
He was indicted by a federal grand jury on March 14 and faces a maximum penalty of life in prison when sentenced on September 7.
Lowe was a registered sex offender at the time of the crime.
U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente and FBI Norfolk Field Office Special Agent in Charge John S. Adams announced the plea.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lisa McKeel and Kaitlin Gratton are prosecuting the case.
Lowe’s sentencing will be determined by the court based on the advisory Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
