Mark W. Irvin, 65, of Meriden, has been sentenced to 180 months in federal prison for producing child pornography and engaging in repeated sexual acts with minors, marking a grim end to a years-long pattern of predatory behavior. U.S. District Judge Stefan R. Underhill handed down the sentence in Bridgeport, followed by 15 years of supervised release, ensuring Irvin will remain under federal watch upon his eventual release.
According to court records, between 2012 and August 2015, Irvin sexually abused three boys under the age of 18 at his Meriden residence. But the abuse didn’t stop at physical contact—he systematically documented the crimes, installing a hidden video camera and digital recording device to capture the assaults. The recordings weren’t just evidence of depravity; they were deliberate acts of production under federal law, sealing Irvin’s fate as a convicted child pornographer.
The operation unraveled on September 8, 2015, when law enforcement stormed Irvin’s home with a search warrant. Agents seized multiple computers, hard drives, and the recording device used during the assaults. Forensic analysis uncovered videos of Irvin committing sexual acts with two of the victims. Even more disturbing, investigators found additional footage taken with a covert camera in his bathroom, showing naked images of underage boys who had no idea they were being watched.
Irvin has been locked up since his arrest on September 18, 2015, and offered a guilty plea on August 31, 2016, to one count of production of child pornography. The plea came after overwhelming digital evidence left no room for denial. Despite the single count, the severity of the conduct—spanning years and involving multiple victims—justified the maximum penalties under federal sentencing guidelines.
The investigation was a joint effort by the Meriden Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, and Connecticut State Police, highlighting the collaboration needed to dismantle hidden networks of abuse. Assistant U.S. Attorney Neeraj N. Patel prosecuted the case with a focus on accountability, ensuring Irvin would face consequences that reflect the trauma inflicted on his victims.
This prosecution falls under the U.S. Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative targeting individuals who exploit children. Authorities urge the public to report suspected abuse through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at www.cybertipline.com.
