Marmet Man Pleads Guilty to Felon in Possession of Firearm

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The grimy streets of Marmet witnessed a stark reminder today as Kevin Maurice Crider, 52, pleaded guilty to federal gun crime charges.

In what is being described by local authorities as a case of flagrant disregard for firearm laws, Crider admitted to possessing a .45 caliber handgun on June 8, 2020. His admission came despite his well-documented prohibition from owning firearms due to a previous felony conviction in Kanawha County Circuit Court for attempted prescription fraud.

Crider’s guilty plea means he now faces up to 10 years in federal prison when he is sentenced on March 17, 2022, a date that will no doubt bring additional hardship and despair to his family and community.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia was swift to issue an announcement, with United States Attorney William S. Thompson commending the relentless investigative efforts of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Marmet Police Department in bringing this case to a successful conclusion.

Presiding over the hearing was United States District Judge Irene C. Berger, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Blackwell led the prosecution on behalf of the United States.
