Armed Carjacking in Memphis Lands Two Men Behind Bars

A federal judge has handed down a combined 21+ year prison sentence to Marterrio Armstrong, 21, of Memphis, Tennessee, and Jacam’Ron McIntosh, 21, of Oxford, Mississippi, for their roles in an armed carjacking at gunpoint.

On November 24, 2024, Armstrong and McIntosh approached a group of nine construction workers in Memphis with guns drawn, demanding their property and threatening them with violence. The duo stole wallets, cell phones, money, and keys from the victims before fleeing the scene in one of the workers’ Nissan Maxima.

Less than an hour later, Memphis Police Department officers tracked down the stolen vehicle to a residence in Memphis, where they found Armstrong and the stolen property. McIntosh was discovered hiding in the attic with a Glock 19 pistol and a Romania Arms Mini Draco pistol.

Armstrong was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison, while McIntosh received a 13-year sentence. The case is part of the Criminal Division’s Violent Crime Initiative in Memphis, a joint effort between federal, state, and local law enforcement to address violent crime in the area.

The investigation was conducted by the ATF and the Memphis Police Department, with prosecution provided by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Tennessee. Assistant Attorney General A. Tysen Duva, U.S. Attorney D. Michael Dunavant, and Special Agent in Charge Jamey VanVliet announced the sentencing.

The defendants will serve their time for the armed carjacking, a crime that put the lives of innocent construction workers at risk. As the community continues to grapple with violent crime, this sentencing serves as a reminder that those who commit such crimes will face consequences.
