NEW ORLEANS – In a shocking display of corporate greed, 49-year-old Martha Buzo Martinez, of Kenner, LA, has pleaded guilty to failing to account for and pay over employment taxes to the Internal Revenue Service, in violation of Title 26, United States Code, Section 7202.
According to court documents, Martinez was the President, Director, and sole officer of Infinity Construction Resources, Inc. From on or about March 2013 to December 2017, Martinez, through Infinity, failed to pay over to the United States Internal Revenue Service approximately $272,096 in FICA taxes.
This egregious breach of trust has left taxpayers reeling and wondering how such a blatant disregard for the law could go unchecked for so long. Martinez’s actions demonstrate a clear and reckless disregard for the well-being of her employees and the community at large.
The court has set sentencing in this matter for April 28, 2020. Martinez faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five (5) years, up to a $250,000 fine, up to three years supervised release following any term of imprisonment, and a $100 special assessment fee.
This case is a stark reminder of the importance of accountability in the business world. It is our duty as a community to hold individuals and corporations responsible for their actions, and to ensure that those who break the law are brought to justice.
The Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation, handled this matter, with Assistant United States Attorney Duane A. Evans prosecuting the case. We will continue to follow this story and bring you updates as more information becomes available.
As a society, we must stand together to prevent such egregious crimes from happening in the future. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and future generations to create a world where corporate greed is not rewarded, but punished.
