A Martinsville man who filmed himself raping a 4-year-old girl he regularly cared for has been sentenced to 35 years in federal prison. Mario Ahlazshuna Dillard, 31, was sentenced yesterday in the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Danville, Acting United States Attorney Rick A. Mountcastle announced.
Dillard previously pled guilty to three counts of production of child pornography and one count of receipt and distribution of child pornography. The sentence includes lifetime supervised release following his prison term, marking one of the most severe penalties handed down in the region for crimes of this nature.
According to evidence presented by Assistant United States Attorney Laura D. Rottenborn, Dillard was a high-volume consumer of child pornography and participated in multiple online networks dedicated to the distribution of illegal material. But his criminal conduct escalated far beyond passive viewing—he crossed into active predation.
Investigators recovered at least four separate videos showing Dillard sexually assaulting the toddler. In one chilling instance, a video captured the child performing oral sex on Dillard while cartoons played in the background. That video was shared by Dillard on June 9, 2015, using WhatsApp Messenger, a media-sharing application widely used for personal communication.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation led the investigation, with critical support from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office. Digital forensics teams traced Dillard’s activity across encrypted platforms, ultimately linking him to the creation and dissemination of the material. His arrest dismantled a hidden network of abuse that exploited one of society’s most vulnerable victims.
Assistant United States Attorneys Laura D. Rottenborn and Daniel Bubar prosecuted the case. Federal authorities emphasized that Dillard’s actions represented not only a grotesque betrayal of trust but a calculated, ongoing campaign of sexual violence against a child in his care—one he chose to document and share with others online.
