Huntsville, Ala. – In a shocking turn of events, a convicted felon has been charged with illegally possessing a firearm, sparking outrage among local authorities.
Marty Dwayne Beasley, a 48-year-old resident of Hackleburg, Alabama, is facing serious consequences after a federal grand jury indicted him on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
According to the indictment, on March 12, 2024, Beasley illegally possessed a Jennings .22 caliber pistol. This is a clear violation of federal law, as Beasley is prohibited from possessing a firearm following prior felony convictions.
Beasley’s lengthy rap sheet includes convictions on November 29, 2018, of the offense of Sexual Abuse First Degree; on August 4, 2010 of Attempted Unlawful Manufacturing of a Controlled Substance and Attempted Possession of a Controlled Substance; and on February 1, 2006, of the offense of Theft of Property, all in the Circuit Court of Franklin County, Alabama; and on August 6, 2010, of the offense of Unlawful Manufacturing a Controlled Substance, in the Circuit Court of Lauderdale County, Alabama.
The FBI investigated the case along with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sara M. Judah is prosecuting the case.
An indictment contains only charges, and defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. However, this case sends a strong message to the community that violating federal law will not be tolerated.
As the investigation unfolds, it is clear that Beasley’s actions put himself and others at risk. The consequences of his actions will be severe, and it is only fitting that he faces the full weight of the law.
