HOUSTON, TX – A shocking display of brazen crime has come to light in the city of Houston, as Marvieon Simien, a 20-year-old local man, has pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm during the robbery of a Family Dollar store on Hiram Clarke Road.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Simien entered the store on December 4, 2022, and grabbed several items. However, he departed without them, only to return minutes later wearing a mask. The suspect then selected another item from the shelf and approached the register, pulling out a handgun from his waistband and intimidating the clerk.
The clerk, feeling threatened and fearing for her life, backed away from Simien as he reached over the counter and stole a nominal amount of cash. The suspect then fled the scene, leaving behind a trail of evidence that would ultimately lead to his arrest.
Video footage obtained by investigators linked Simien to the crime, and the store clerk was able to identify him as the perpetrator. Despite a thorough search, the gun and stolen cash were never recovered.
U.S. District Judge David Hittner will impose sentencing on October 26, at which time Simien faces a minimum of five years and up to life in federal prison, along with a possible maximum fine of $250,000.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Houston Police Department Task Force, as part of the Houston Law Enforcement Violent Crime Initiative. This initiative combines personnel and resources from numerous federal, state, and local agencies to proactively fight and reduce violent crime across the Greater Houston area.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joe Porto and Brian Hrach prosecuted the case, highlighting the importance of collaboration and coordination between law enforcement agencies in bringing violent offenders to justice.
