Fentanyl has claimed another victim in Cattaraugus County, where a local woman has been sentenced for her role in distributing the deadly opioid.
Mary Kettle, 38, of Olean, NY, was sentenced to serve four years’ probation by U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr.
Kettle was convicted of conspiring to possess with intent to distribute, and distributing, butyryl fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid that has been linked to numerous overdose deaths in the region.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua A. Violanti, Kettle conspired with Erin Cameron and others to sell butyryl fentanyl between July 2018 and December 30, 2018. The two women made controlled purchases of the substance, with Kettle delivering the fentanyl on both occasions.
The investigation, led by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Southern Regional Drug Task Force, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, uncovered a complex web of drug dealers and suppliers operating in the area.
The sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, under the direction of Jason Thompson; the Southern Regional Drug Task Force, under the direction of Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Timothy Whitcomb; and the Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Ray Donovan, New York Field Division.
Kettle’s conviction and sentencing serve as a reminder of the devastating impact of the opioid crisis on our communities. As we continue to fight against the scourge of fentanyl and other deadly opioids, it’s essential that those responsible for distributing these substances are held accountable for their actions.
